Why does the price change when I enter my information on the purchase page?
Styckyd automatically calculates shipping from the seller to the shipping address you enter and this is automatically added to the price on the purchase page. By doing it this way we can ensure more accurate shipping quotes and make it easier for the seller to properly price their parts as they won't have to pick an arbitrarily large price for shipping.
Is PayPal the only way to transfer funds to the seller?
Yes. At this time we have built-in support for PayPal. We may add more services in the future as they become popular. If there's one you're looking for please let us know.
I added a Want to Buy but haven't received any e-mails yet, what's the deal?
Some parts are really hard to find and don't get sold often. If you've added it to your Want to Buy list we'll notify you as soon as someone lists one for sale.
What's a "Feeler"?
A Feeler is like a listing, except it's not. Some sellers are unsure if they want to sell a part they have so they'll put out a Feeler to gauge interest. If they get enough interest they'll convert it to a listing which you can buy. If you see a Feeler for a part that you might want to buy try asking the seller for more information.
Why are some listings displayed as "Local"?
Shipping can be a pain for some auto parts and some sellers don't want to go through the hassle. We're trying to help by making it easier for them to ship parts to you but many sellers will try to sell the parts locally first. There's a link on the listing page to ask the seller to ship the part, click it and we'll let you know if they change their mind.
What's "Styckyd Consignment"?
It's a service that we provide to sellers who might not have time to sell their parts. Instead of listing them on their own they give their parts to us to sell for them. We clean them, take pictures, do some research on the parts and then ship them to you out of our facilities. It makes the entire process a little easier for everyone involved.
How do I know I can trust the seller?
We're constantly working towards building a safe and secure marketplace for automotive enthusiasts. There are some people on the internet that would try to take advantage of your trust. We've currently put these safeguards in place to encourage a healthy marketplace:
- We encourage real names. We ask buyers and sellers for their real names so that it's easier to identify real people from fakes. We also encourage people to register with their Facebook accounts as most people attach their real identities to their Facebook accounts. In the Google generation almost everyone is Googleable. If you're curious about someone check out their Facebook profile or type their name into Google and see what comes up.
- Sellers of listings that are not listed as "Local only" must provide their credit card information to sell parts. To fully enable a listing a seller must provide us with their credit card information so that we can collect our fees and verify their identity. Our credit card processor must follow strict regulations set out by the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standard Council. Their checks and balances help us ensure that the seller is not using fraudulent credit cards and is indeed a legitimate seller.
- We trust your payments with PayPal. PayPal has a decade of experience transferring money between buyers and sellers and have their own checks and balances in place to guard against fraud. Please check their website for more information on their security policies.
Here are a few things we recommend doing to attempt to verify the seller's identity:
- Ensure they're using their real names. If they seller isn't using their real name you can ask them to update the information with their real name or try and purchase from a seller using their real identity. Users using Facebook will have a Facbook icon in the lower right corner of their profile image.
- Ask them which forums they're on and what their user name is. You can tell a lot about a person by what they choose to post on a public forum. Most people are inherently good but you might want to be cautious with someone who only posts about "bewbs".
- Notify us about anyone you suspect might be up to no good. We maintain a clean marketplace and are happy to check into anyone you may suspect as a bad apple. We'll get rid of the rotten ones and keep the gooders.
What happens if a seller doesn't ship the part to me?
First, please let us know and we'll see if there's anything we can do. Sometimes it's nothing more than a simple communication error.
There are rare occasions with an unscrupulous seller. We do our best to ensure those people don't invade our marketplace. If it occurs to you and you've tried contacting the seller with no response please reach out to PayPal as soon as possible to get your money back and let us know if we can be of any assistance.
